Back from the brink: Fritillaria purdyi on the rebound

The surviving scrap, December 2006; by then the "bump" had showed itself to be a sprout and had produced roots while in the zip lock bag.

It made good growth in 2007 and by September 2007 it was beginning to look like something.

Here it is now, in June 2008: it's moving in the right direction!
